A serie of contemporary perspectives for creative writings.

SABR/Collection is a series of publications that bring together short literary works in a variety of genres.
Curated by Nesrine Salem, SABR/Collection wishes to highlight the macro-realities of the authors chosen, to make visible the intersectional nature of struggles.

Each publication presents the work of an author in the language they have chosen to write and offers a translation of the text into English. This multilingual approach not only celebrates linguistic diversity; it also eases connections between writing and reading experiences. English here is a substitute for a mother tongue that might be tinted by French colonial history.

While Postfirebooks presents publications that emerge from the fire by their context of creation or the subjects they address, SABR/Collection focuses on what takes place within the flames themselves. It is a non-chronological, non-exhaustive collection, with no particular order of importance, celebrating the transgenerational causes we fight for and aim to carry into the new world.

Ṣabr, in arabic, can be translated as “patience” or “forbearance” in english and is an important part of muslim faith. Ṣabr doesn’t mean surrendering to life as it is, it means accepting our realities and confronting them in a way that is possible for us, with the conviction that positive outcomes will result. Ṣabr is an indispensable part of activism, in the current state of the world, aka the capitalist, white imperial world.
