Views of Jäktäsaari : miss u from a place that doesn’t exist

Views of Jätkäsaari: Miss u from a place that doesn't exist shows a sequence of satellite views and sky photos as seen from several locations in Jätkäsaari - a post-industrial district in Helsinki, Finland.

As the satellite views have not been updated, visiting Jätkäsaari from the sky is like exploring a construction site whose infrastructures looks abandoned in a desert landscape, surounded by residential buildings. Cranes, trucks and containers appears extracted from the ground, modeled in three dimensions.

The publication offers a photographic tour of an indefinite area where space and time seems to have stopped, a form of digital urbex interspersed by images of the sky above, as ordinary as comforting. The successive presentation of the two points of view (satellite imagery and contemplative sights on the blue sky as seen from Earth) adds a sense of floating to the narrative, hovering over strange but peaceful visions of nowhere.

In the background, Views of Jätkäsaari is also the story of two entities and their intersecting eyes. Unable to see or touch each other, they exchange words throught telecommunications, seeking each other's waves in space to give substance to their absence. Looking at the immensity of the sky, flying over places that don't exist, or don't exist yet.
