MELIKA SADEGHZADEH
The hour of wolf and sheep

“Each object, each room, exists in an unstable in-between, capable of evoking both the tenderness of family memory and the discomfort of a home that no longer feels like one. The Hour of Wolf and Sheep names this threshold moment, when day gives way to night and this ambivalence becomes most visible.”
︎︎︎Extract from the prologue by Guilhem Monceaux

The Hour of Wolf and Sheep was published on the occasion of the eponym exhibition dedicated to the work of Melika Sadeghzadeh at CACN - Nîmes Contemporary Art Center, curated by Guilhem Monceaux. The book is a copublication by Postfirebooks and CACN.

Based on a video and sound installation shown in the exhibition, The Hour of Wolf and Sheep recomposes narrative fragments occurring in Melika Sadeghzadeh's works, by assembling a sequence of images and a bilingual poetic text.

Through its format and binding, the publication reproduces one of the notebooks used by the artist to develop the narratives and spaces of the exhibition. Preparatory sketches mingle with screenshots and altered images, scrolling across the pages like a video montage, while a long prose poem appears in the foreground, like a subtitle, in it original english version as long as its french translation.

The introspective poem, recited by Melika Sadeghzadeh in her film, is preceded by Guilhem Monceaux’s prologue and followed by an epilogue written by Nesrine Salem.
