“Three times a year, I return to Mas d’Enromeu. During these stays, I read, I wander through these places where, as a child, I often played alone. My attachment to these landscapes, which have become ever more silent, grows. I draw them, I paint them, they are populated by my imagination, as if only my fictions could inhabit them.”

Evocaciones draws the path connecting two places and two eras using a series of images and poetic writings, the foundations of José Sales Albella’s practice.

Between an introspective journey, an attempt at representation and a treasure hunt, Evocaciones shows details chosen from the artist’s drawings, like fragments to be reassembled. The composition reveal a hidden scene the texts are seeking to describe.

The captions feature enigmatic poems that set the tone. Linear blocks overlook the images, in an almost divinatory narrative, while cultivating the unspoken.
